POOL NEWS

Sunshine… Swimming… Sunshine… Swimming!

It has been an awesome summer for swimming and cooling off in the pool! Weather permitting, we will be able to enjoy the pool through mid-September. The Pool Committee would like to thank all of the Riverwood volunteers who donated their time to complete the list of daily maintenance tasks. It takes a village to maintain a pool!

Stacie, Esperanza, and Matteo Paz, and Shawn Burns enjoy the pool!

A BIG THANK-YOU TO:  Pete Burns, Gina Neville, Lisa Dashiell, Laurel McAfee, Jann Gilbert, John Cunningham, Stacie and Juan Paz, Bill Cromb, Ellen Knapton, Elizabeth Geressu, Elise Morgan, Laurie Watson, Shirley Piel, Carol Hardy, Lynn Young, Cindy Zinn and our dedicated leaderJim Eveland.   —Cindy Zinn.

Pool volunteers enjoy an evening together.

Upcoming Event – Holiday Picnic

The Recreation Committee would like to invite you to a Bring-Your-Own Picnic on Saturday, September 3, from 2:00-4:00, outside the Recreation Room.  Please bring your own food and beverage.  We really hope that all of our new neighbors will come and meet the board, committee chairs and fellow residents. This event is for residents only.  We hope to see you there. —Nancy Stoll

NOTE FROM EDITOR

I would like to start a new tradition of announcing our newest neighbors each month. Please welcome Judy Robertson, 12603 NE Shaver, driveway 60.

Allaire Henneman would like to change the method of distributing the resident roster. Rather than sending a hard copy once a year, we’ll now be attaching the rosters to the newsletter email every quarter, starting this month. You can then choose to print it off or save it. Two documents will be attached to this email:  1) Board of Directors and Committees, with Driveway rosters; And, 2) Resident roster, alphabetically. Extra copies will be placed in Rec Room for those who desire hard copies, along with the newsletter.         Robin

BOARD NEWS

Open Board and Committee Positions

Two Open Board Positions: We have two open positions to fill for our HOA’s Board. Positions are voluntary and a great way to keep up on information and events in our community. We like to have a minimum of a 3 year commitment. If you are interested, please reach out to Carol Hardy (Board Member) or Laurel McAfee (Secretary). We need to fill these positions ASAP, ballots go out in September.

Open Committee Position – Maintenance Chair: This position may be able to be divided for responsibilities given to a couple of people. This position needs someone who can triage project needs, oversee large projects, and coordinate projects to Mace. Other duties include budget bids, finances, and contact vendors. If you are interested, please contact Jim Eveland (current Chair) and/or Larry Dashiell (Board President). This position needs to be filled by October.

Two Important Elections: You will receive two ballots in the same mailing in September. One, as noted above, will be for board members. The second is very important, with the need for ALL residents to respond : the amendment to bylaws for a Transfer Fee for buyers, which will help build the very important reserve fund.

COYOTE SIGHTING

Dennis Sutton notes that today, August 25th, he saw a coyote at 7:30 am. It appeared to be coming from driveway 10 and was running down driveway 20 toward 125th. Please be cautious if you have small pets.

Illegal Camping and Abandoned Cars

There is a Riverwood group that has been active in reporting illegal camping and abandoned cars in our neighborhood. Please consider joining this group to make our voices heard for the betterment and safety of where we live.

Reports can be made to:

  • Online reports:  pdxreporter.org
  • Abandoned autos: 503-823-6814 or 24 Hour Hotline: 503-823-7309.  Illegal parking: 503-823-5195
  • Campsite reporting: 311

Several of our neighborhood streets are designated as PBOT Safe Route to Schools. With school starting next month and Mayor Wheeler’s Emergency Declaration made this week, hopefully we can get some traction with clearing our Riverwood area streets (https://www.portland.gov/wheeler/news/2022/8/19/mayor-wheeler-expands-emergency-declaration-prohibit-camping-key-walking). Encouraging news is that the large encampment on 122nd just south of Sandy is already being cleared.

Graffiti   Did you know we can help address graffiti in our neighborhood? Metro has free graffiti abatement kits available. Three kits have been picked up for us to use. The following families have the kits: Dashiell, Paz, Williams Accius. Each kit contains the following items:

  • Clean it Up Kit—A solvent-based kit for smaller tag removal on surfaces like glass, metal, and plastic. Kit contains Cleansweep spray solution, bucket, plastic scraper, gloves, safety glasses and microfiber cloth.
  • Paint it Up Kit—These kits come with up to five gallons of MetroPaint from a selection of limited edition colors. Perfect for indoor and outdoor use, these kits can be used where permission has been granted to freshen up a space or mitigate graffiti. All kits include a roller, roller tray, roller cover, a three-inch paint brush and painter’s tape.

These no-cost kits can be obtained at Metro Paint, 4825 N Basin Ave, Portland, OR 97217. If there are multiple people wanting a kit, notify Lisa Dashiell, 503-293-6861, and a pickup run can be made.
